The Lake Superior Squadron has a Marine OY-2 (Carin’ Belle) on permanent display in our hangar.
The OY-2 is the Marine version of the Stinson L-5 Sentinel, a World War II era liaison craft. Courier, artillery observation, and cargo transport were some common roles for a L-5. With the ability to carry a stretcher, later model Sentinels like Carin’ Belle were also used as arial ambulances.
Carin’ Belle (N5138B) is currently in the last stages of an engine overhaul, replacement of electrical system, controls systems, landing gear, as well as other restoration. Currently undergoing run-ups and inspection, It is expected to be back in the air in 2023.
